Glossary

Homeward uses its own words for a few things, and it uses them consistently. A fund is never a “campaign”; a subscriber is never a “follower”. This page lists the vocabulary so a term you meet anywhere in the app or in these docs means the same thing.

Account — your sign-in: one email or passkey, one password, one set of security settings. An account can manage more than one profile.
Profile — the record for a person or an organization on Homeward. Profiles are what visitors see and what donors give to.
Manager — a person granted the right to edit a particular profile. Managers act through their own profiles; adding or removing a login never changes the profile itself.
Connection — a link between two people, or between a person and an organization. Family and colleague connections are often made automatically.
Subscriber — a person connected to an organization so they receive its updates. A subscriber link is not admin access.
Campus — an organization listed under another organization rather than standing alone. A campus stops receiving donations directly; its existing funds stay with it.
Program — a body of work an organization runs, linked to the people and campuses involved and usually to one fund.
Fund — the thing donors give to. A fund belongs to an organization, and one fund may support several programs.
Fundraiser — a time-limited push with its own goal and deadline, drawing on giving to a fund.
Allocation — the split of a single gift across funds and recipients. One donation can carry several allocations.
Schedule — a recurring gift: monthly, quarterly, or yearly.
Payout — money sent out of the platform to a profile owner, approved by Homeward staff and dispatched through Wise.
Endorsement — a public statement about a person or organization, written by a community member and published as written. The subject cannot remove one; they can report it.
Ministry tier — how a worker’s ministry standing is established: None, Self-certified, or Qualified.
Legal entity — the country-specific registration record behind an organization: legal name, registration number, board, and annual filings.
Network — a missions network that organizations affiliate with. Network membership is recorded on the organization and appears in public filters.
Letters — the Homeward newsfeed of field updates, read on the homepage and by email.
Edition — one day’s Letters, dated and fixed. Personalising changes which stories appear in your edition.
Cause — a ministry area such as church planting or education, used to tag profiles, programs, and updates.
