Managing organizations

The staff Organizations page is where you find any organization on the platform and create new ones. Each organization then has its own staff pages for identity, contact, programs and funds, and people and access. The organization-facing equivalents are described in Organizations — this article covers only what staff do differently.

Search by name, and sort by Organization, Publication, Donations, Number of staff, or Created by clicking a column heading. Sorting always returns to page 1.

  • Organization — avatar and name, linking to that organization’s admin profile dashboard.
  • Publication — published in green, or the current status in grey.
  • Donations — Enabled when the organization can receive funds, Off when it cannot.
  • Network affiliation — links to each affiliated network organization.
  • Number of staff and Created — blank when the platform has no value.

Edit opens the organization’s Identity page.

Create organization opens a short form. The one field to get right is the slug:

  • Slug — appears after homeward.org/orgs/ and becomes the organization’s public URL. It is at most 8 characters, lowercased, letters and digits only.
  • Organization Name — required, at least 2 characters.
  • Unincorporated — check this for groups with no legal registration. It clears and hides the legal name and country fields.
  • Legal name and Country of registration — required unless the organization is unincorporated.
  • Primary contact email and Website — both required. The https:// prefix is added for you if you paste a bare address.

Creating the organization takes you straight to its Identity page.

Each page uses the same lock-card pattern as the rest of the dashboard: a card is read-only until you press Edit, then Save and Cancel appear.

Public name, slug, tagline, year founded, staff count, mission statement, impact one-liner, intro paragraph, headline quotes, profile photo, and up to 8 cover photos. The Slug field is editable only by an admin or sysadmin, and changing it changes the public URL. Legal names and tax identifiers do not live here — they belong to the organization’s legal entities.

The primary contact email, phone, and postal address, plus one field per social platform. Social fields accept either @username or a full URL and are normalized on save; leaving a field blank removes that link.

The programs, funds, and fundraisers donors can give to, and the order they appear on the public profile. This page has one trap worth knowing: money amounts are entered in cents even though the field shows a dollar prefix. Typing 5000 into a fundraiser goal sets a goal of $50. Fund and fundraiser rows are drag-reorderable, and removing a fund is labelled Archive rather than delete.

Who is linked to the organization and what each person can do. Connecting a person here creates a subscriber connection — they follow the organization and receive its updates — not admin access. Admin access requires a user account and is granted on the staff roster. Note also that if the person’s own work history at the organization has a title, the public profile shows that title instead of the one typed here; the typed title applies once that role ends.
